Glass skin undoubtedly takes the top spot if we had to choose one Korean beauty trend that has taken over the skincare market. And it's very reasonable. The glass skin trend caters to those who desire clear, healthy-looking skin. Glass skin is designed to resemble a crystal clear piece of glass, therefore it's all about skin that appears to be fully transparent. The ultimate goal is to have poreless, dewy, baby-soft skin.

Of course, as with most K-beauty trends, achieving bright, glass skin takes more than a few simple procedures. You don't recall the 10-step Korean skin-care program, do you? That means attaining glass skin isn't something you can do on the spur of the moment; instead, you'll need to stick to a nine-step skincare routine, as explained below. Continue reading for step-by-step instructions on how to achieve glass skin, as well as ideas on how to create a complimentary makeup look.

HOW TO GET GLASS SKIN

The Korean glass skin trend is all about cleansing and layering lightweight, hydrating skincare products to help create the appearance of glowing, dewy skin. Here’s how to try the glass skin trend for yourself:

STEP 1: START WITH A GENTLE CLEANSER

The facial cleanser should always be the first step in any skincare routine. Cleaning your skin removes dirt and pollutants from the surface for a fresh appearance. Because you'll be using an exfoliant after cleansing, choose a face cleanser that is both mild and effective.

Because the ultimate goal is to have glass skin, you should also search for a cleanser that will help brighten your complexion, such as the L'Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Detox & Brighten Cleanser. Squeeze a tiny quantity of facial cleanser into your (clean) palms and mix with water to change the viscosity from clay to mousse. Massage the facial cleanser into your skin carefully, then rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry with a washcloth.

Editor's note: When it comes to Korean skincare, it's almost a given that double washing is the only method to transform your skin into a fresh, smooth canvas. This approach starts with a cleanser that eliminates makeup and begins to cleanse the skin, followed by a second face cleanser that removes any remaining dirt or pollutants. We suggest applying a cleansing oil first, followed by the clay cleaner suggested above.

STEP 2: EXFOLIATE WITH A FACE SCRUB

It's time to reach for a face scrub now that your face is clean. Any skincare plan should include exfoliating from head to toe on a regular basis. Nonetheless, because it rubs away all the dead, dull-looking skin cells from the surface of your complexion, it's an extremely important step in achieving glass skin. Make sure you get a face scrub that's made for your skin type and problems. Remember that the purpose of any face scrub is moderate exfoliation that shows a bright, fresh-looking complexion—no redness!

If you have dry skin, opt for a nourishing scrub. If you're prone to blackheads, look for a scrub that's designed to penetrate deeply into the pores, and so on. Here are our top choices:

The L'Oréal Paris Pure-Sugar Resurface & Invigorate Kona Coffee Scrub contains authentic Kona coffee grounds to help energize tired, dull-looking skin.

The L'Oréal Paris Pure-Sugar Nourish & Soften Cocoa Scrub is a terrific alternative for those with dry skin because it contains rich cocoa butter and soothing coconut oil.

Thanks to its recipe, which includes finely crushed acai, nutrient-rich monoi, and grapeseed oil, the L'Oréal Paris Pure-Sugar Smooth & Glow Grapeseed Scrub will leave your skin feeling baby-soft and shining.

The L'Oréal Paris Pure-Sugar Purify & Unclog Kiwi Scrub is made with real kiwi seeds and helps to remove dead skin cells while also purifying and unclogging pores.

Smooth a tiny amount of the scrub over moist, clean skin and gently massage it over your face with wet fingers once you've picked the proper face scrub recipe for your complexion. Don't scrub too hard, and make sure to rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.

Bonus: All of the aforementioned face washes can also be used on your lips! For other tips, see How to Use a Lip Scrub Before Applying Lipstick.

STEP 3: REACH FOR A SHEET MASK

Who says you can’t add a little pampering into your glass skin routine? Sheet masks are a great way to give your skin a nourishing treat while addressing your skincare concerns. One of our favorite ways to face mask, this essential deeply penetrates the skin to boost moisture and brightness. Simply pop one on to give your skin a quick dose of TLC.

STEP 4: USE A HYDRATING TONER

Toners do not all dry out your skin, contrary to popular perception. The trick is to apply an alcohol-free moisturizing toner, such as L'Oréal Paris HydraFresh Toner, which is designed with pro-vitamin B5 and helps prevent moisture loss while leaving skin soft and supple. To apply, dampen a cotton ball and apply it to your face and neck.

STEP 5: APPLY A HYDRATING SERUM

A healthy-looking, dewy complexion is essential for glass skin, thus moisturizing your skin is a must! Apply a face serum on moist skin after cleaning and toning. If you're not already utilizing a face serum on a regular basis, it's time to educate yourself on the many cosmetic benefits serums may provide (for a start, check out our article What Is a Face Serum and Why Should You Use One).

Hyaluronic acid is a fantastic element to seek in serum for Korean glass skin because it's commonly present in very moisturizing products. L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Derm Intensives 1.5 percent Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum absorbs fast and provides skin a significantly plumped, youthful appearance. Apply a few drops to your face and neck, then gently glide over your skin in upward motions, keeping your eyes out of the way.

STEP 6: LAYER ON A LIGHTWEIGHT MOISTURIZER

Next up: Moisturizer! Yes, that’s right—you’ll want to layer a moisturizer on top of the serum, which will effectively lock in moisture and help give you a radiant glow. Obviously, with any facial moisturizer, the overall goal is to moisturize your complexion, but just as you chose your previous products based on your skin type and concerns, you’ll want to take the same approach here.

Because the moisturizers in our Hydra Genius line are incredibly lightweight and water-based, they're a wonderful choice for achieving the glass skin effect. Choose between the L'Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care – Normal/Oily Skin, the L'Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care – Normal/Dry Skin, or the L'Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care – Extra Dry Skin, depending on your skin type. To use, apply a light, even layer of your favorite moisturizer to your entire face, smoothing it in until it is completely absorbed.

STEP 7: APPLY YOUR FOUNDATION

Use a hydrating foundation with a non-matte finish to achieve a luminous, glass-like appearance. Matte makeup will give you the opposite of a glass-skin look. A medium-coverage foundation is a terrific method to get your desired appearance without going overboard and seeming cakey (also wrong for achieving the glass skin look). Using a foundation with a radiant finish, such as the L'Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation, is your best bet.

STEP 8: APPLY A HIGHLIGHTING LOTION

All that's left now is to add an extra brilliant sheen to your skin after it's been properly washed, exfoliated, and hydrated for a glowing finish. Squeeze some L'Oréal Paris True MatchTM Lumi Glotion Natural Glow Enhancer onto your hands and massage it into your skin, paying special attention to your cheekbones and the tip of your nose to get the appearance.

STEP 9: ADD A FINAL LAYER OF TARGETED GLOW

Keep going; you're almost there! Last but not least, apply a final layer of a glow-boosting highlighter to the top of your cheekbones, bridge of your nose, the center of your forehead, and cupid's bow, such as the L'Oréal Paris True MatchTM Lumi Glow Amour Glow Boosting Drops. Apply a few drops to each area, then blend with a makeup blender like the L'Oréal Paris Infallible Blend Artist Foundation Blender.

HOW TO COMPLETE YOUR GLASS SKIN LOOK

Now that you know how to get glass skin, you can move on to completing your makeup look! With the Korean glass skin look, we recommend keeping your makeup look relatively light. Here are our suggestions:

1. GIVE CHEEKS SOME COLOR

A touch of color on the cheekbones is required for a glass skin effect. To complement your gleaming skin, go for a natural appearance with a shimmering finish. Apply the L'Oréal Paris True MatchTM Lumi Bronze It Bronzer to your cheekbones and temples for a bronzed look. Apply a light dusting of rose-tinted highlighter to your brow bone, tops of your cheekbones, and cupid's bow with your fingertips. For this phase, we recommend the L'Oréal Paris True MatchTM Lumi Glow Nude Highlighter Palette.

2. KEEP EYES SUBTLE

Keep your eye makeup minimal and modest to show off your fresh, dewy complexion, especially because you've just spent so much time and work getting Korean glass skin. Apply a tiny line of liquid eyeliner on your upper lash, such as L'Oréal Paris Infallible The Super Slim Liquid Eyeliner. Use hues from the L'Oréal Paris Colour Riche La Palette Nude to keep your eyeshadow simple and nude-colored, and end with a few swipes of a lengthening mascara like the L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Washable Mascara.

3. PERFECT YOUR ARCHES

No cosmetic look is ever complete without filled-in brows in our opinion! Use a small amount of the L'Oréal Paris Unbelieva-Brow Longwear Waterproof Brow Gel to keep things simple.

4. PLAY UP YOUR POUT

Lips that are glossy are the ideal complement to healthy skin. Choose a gloss that is lustrous but not sticky, such as L'Oréal Paris Infallible 8HR Le Gloss.
